Fifty years ago the 1963 March on Washington drew a record crowd to our nation’s capital. One of the people who helped lay the groundwork for the civil rights movement is Knoxvillian Rev. Harold Middlebrook. As a young man, Middlebrook had a close friendship with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and even witnessed his death in Memphis in 1968.
